It’s my first post on Blunts&Kicks, blessings to Nathanial T. for the invite, and it’s sad that I gotta waste it talking about Omarion’s success. Not trying to be a hater on any level, but I don’t like Omarion. Maybe it's the fact that, in the immortal words of Riley Freeman from the Boondocks: “he’s an RnB sexy flexy ass dancing ass n***a”. But like I said, that’s just me.
In the entirety of Omarion’s fame he has succeeded in one thing: re-creating the feel of the video clip for Michael Jackson’s classic song “Bad”. In Omarion’s latest track “Hoodie” featuring Jay Rock, he has revamped and somewhat improved an old school hit minus the tight jeans, cowboy boots and jazz tap. I can’t lie, out of all the tribute CDs and videos out there for Mr. Jackson, this is strangely the one that did it for me. It stayed true to Omarion’s unfortunate choice of musical style (since he dedicated a whole track to his love of hoodies) yet was surprisingly well made, allowing the King of Pop to be emulated and recreated through what I think is one of the best dancers of this decade (this is from a mainstream, non-dancing point of view so don’t hate).
Nuff said ...See for yourself,
If y'all don’t feel it well here is the real video from Michael Jackson aka the King of Pop. ( Check out Wesley Snipes aka Blade aka Darkie of the Year at the end of the video right after he gets hushed by M.J and his goons ...trust me its jokes.)

ReplyDeleteI agree with you on the most part. Omarion's video was a good representation of MJ's video. The image, the clothing and everything, it was okay. Great attempt...BUT, his hoodie?! I think the song still is about being ''bad'' and I guess in today's definition being ''bad'' is having swagger (that word is soooo 2009) or what not, so here's where the ''hoodie'' part fits it, I guess... ?!?
But still, you can't deny the greatness and amazingness in MJ's video. As soon as you see MJ at te begining of the video you have to RECOGNIZE the greatness. No one on the planet has swagger like Mike, and it's obvious! Just his presence totally outshines Omarion's.
And Omarion's a good dancer but..I think Justin Timberlake's better, when it comes to mainstream pop artists. The dancing in MJ's video was sharp, the smallest little details were on point whereas Omarion's dance is really first of all not that innovative, sharp or on point.
Still, it's a nice gesture from Omarion and I enjoyed watching the video.
PS: I still think that NOTHING can top the red rollerskates in MJ's video like...COME ON !
