To go as far as saying “I understood Michael Jackson,” is an extreme boost i.e. a major exaggeration. It is definitely sad to say but true for the most part, people did not understand the King of Pop or his actions. But when it came down to talent, there was no question, but a mutual understanding that he was not given title by accident, but that he put out hits and dance moves that changed music. As a kid I remember watching the video for the single “Bad” and feeling to be “bad” you had to do some jazz fusion dancing and wear fashionably tight clothing with cowboy boots. Sorry for believing.

It’s my first post on Blunts&Kicks, blessings to Nathanial T. for the invite, and it’s sad that I gotta waste it talking about Omarion’s success. Not trying to be a hater on any level, but I don’t like Omarion. Maybe it's the fact that, in the immortal words of Riley Freeman from the Boondocks: “he’s an RnB sexy flexy ass dancing ass n***a”. But like I said, that’s just me.

In the entirety of Omarion’s fame he has succeeded in one thing: re-creating the feel of the video clip for Michael Jackson’s classic song “Bad”. In Omarion’s latest track “Hoodie” featuring Jay Rock, he has revamped and somewhat improved an old school hit minus the tight jeans, cowboy boots and jazz tap. I can’t lie, out of all the tribute CDs and videos out there for Mr. Jackson, this is strangely the one that did it for me. It stayed true to Omarion’s unfortunate choice of musical style (since he dedicated a whole track to his love of hoodies) yet was surprisingly well made, allowing the King of Pop to be emulated and recreated through what I think is one of the best dancers of this decade (this is from a mainstream, non-dancing point of view so don’t hate).

Niceguys Who Don’t Finish Last X Lord of the Underground

Now when you think rappers from Houston, Texas usually the first thing that comes to mind is “How is that one hit wonder gonna drop a beat and what corny dance is gonna go along with it.” The Niceguys are the exception to the rule, these cats don’t play, and they spit some deep knowledge. From listening to them, it seems like they spent a lot of time on the class bench yet they ain’t nerds. Their music is like Sunny D on a hot summer day: fresh, refreshing and full of vitamin C. I have no idea who produces for them( all I know is his name is Todd) but the beats deserve two rounds of applause; which can all be found their recently dropped mixtape called The Green Room . For people that know underground/non commercial (it’s still debatable what is and what isn’t ) , if I absolutely had to compare them to someone else in the game the Niceguys would find themselves as being a perfect blend between PAC DIV AND THE COOL KIDS.

Their forte: word play and metaphor. The Niceguys can be found hitting us up with sneaker lines like “Shoe game is perverted/Admire my attire SB’s courtesy of Quagmire” ... (for you slowpokes that don’t get it or have never heard of the shoe see picture below)

The Green Room EP, in my opinion, is one of the best of 2009. A combination of great beats matched with lines like “ I’m from the Basement/ so imagine what that Base Meant/ A mean to some great end” or “I understand the pressure/ Keeps you on the edge/ you seek insanity by the ledge, Heath Ledger ”<- this what you can expect from the mixtape. It almost feels like too much knowledge just to be in a chill vibe but the mellow beats make up for the information overload. It is pretty much your choice whether you listen to the beat or the lyrics. A big 9/10 goes to The Niceguys and their Green Room Ep. In the words of POS (from De La Soul) in rock co-kane flow:” Here's a couple of niceguys who finished first, so nice try but the prize is ours DISPERSE.”

The Pittsburgh native delivers a next track to jam to and a video that depicts his love for his city. Wiz' flow and delivery seem a lot more mature, in comparison to his laid back, sparking-spliffs-in-between-choruses-and-takes, sounding vocals. His content doesn't revolve around the usual (but taboo) marijuana culture on "All In My Blood", which lucidly shows his range and skill in writing.

However, I still have to highlight his MJ themed verses (no 23):

"i hop up in the coupe feel the breeze while im in it

Well, just as many are glad to see Eminem release another studio album (Relapse: Refill) to serve his “relapsing” fans in this brand new album promotional commercial, a smaller number of people are equally excited to catch a glimpse of what appears to be the Air Jordan 4 (IV) Retro Eminem.

It is one of the rarest Air Jordan Retro 4 (IV) to release and only 50 pairs of the sneaker was made for Slim Shady’s friends and family to celebrate the album “Encore”. Each pair of the shoe have “Eminem” stitched on the tongue.

The present market value for a deadstock (new) pair ranges between 5000$ and more. But what really has the public baffled is the fact that the shoe in the commercial appears to be darker than the original release which you can see below. That can mean many different things, but let’s just hope it means a possible re-release or a variation of the original.

1.) Raekwon: Only Built for Cuban Linx 2

Best songs: Kiss the Ring, Broken Safety, New Wu, House of Flying Daggers

Best verses: Rae, Meth, Deck and Ghost’s verses on Flying Daggers, Styles on Broken Safety, Decks verse on Black Mozart. With Wu it’s all about the storytelling, slang, aggressive deliveries, wordplay, and style.

Best beat: 4 way tie... Kiss the Ring, New Wu, House of Flying Daggers, Broken Safety. ***OB4CL2 had such amazing production it was impossible to pick just one beat.

2.) Eminem's "Relapse"

Best songs: Stay wide awake, Medicine Ball, Deja Vu, 3 am

Best verse: Stay wide awake verse 3. *** Em’s psychotic storytelling done in doubletime is one of the years best lyrical achievements. Even if you can’t stomach the track's subject matter, there's no denying the skill set, timing, and breath control it takes to pull off a verse like this.

Best beat: Medicine Ball*** Dre’s beat of horns, claps, and pounding drums was the perfect backdrop for Em to spew his venom over.

3.) Slaughterhouse

Best songs: Cuckoo, Microphone, The One, Cut You Loose

Best verses: With this album being a group project it’s too tough to pick one verse. Crooked I’s verse on Cut You Loose was a standout, as well as Budden and Royce’s verses on Cuckoo and Microphone. Joel Ortiz’s verses on Cuckoo and Lyrical Murderers were exceptional as well.

Best beat: Cuckoo*** This circus sounding beat with pounding drums produced by Dj. Khalil brought out the beast in all mcees and still remains the best cut on the album.

4.) Jay Z : Blueprint 3

Best songs: Thank You, On To The Next One, Empire State of Mind, So Ambitious

Best verses: Jay’s second and third verses on Thank You. *** With a nonchalant delivery, descriptions of good living, and metaphoric destruction to wack mcees, Jay proved he’s still as witty as ever when it comes to writing verses.

5.) Tie: Royce the 5’9:Street Hop/ Clipse:Til the Casket Drops

Best songs: Shake This, New Money, Warriors, On the Run

Best verse: *** For slightly over two minutes Royce manages to sound menacing over a mellow middle Eastern sampled beat. Too many quotables to reference in its two minute duration.

Best beat: Shake this*** Premo comes through with one of the years best beats, complete with a dope drum pattern, strings and horns.

Best songs: Popeyes, Showing Out, Never Will It Stop, Doorman

Best verse: (Pusha T) Freedom*** Pusha gets personal on the album's first cut, spilling his guts over a guitar sample, talking about his relationships with women and music.

Best beat: Popeyes*** the drum pattern and piano are so catchy it’s damn near impossible not to nod your head to this one.

With all the hype surrounding the Air Jordan XI Space Jam releasing in stores this weekend, many have forgotten about the first time ever retroed, since 1997, Air Jordan XII White/ Varsity- Red. They will be hitting stores, December 23rd 2009, along with the Space Jams.

Designed by Tinker Hatfield, the Air Jordan XII was inspired by "Nisshoki", the Japanese Rising Sun and supposedly a 19th century woman dress boot. If you've noticed, the leather on the upper part of the shoe is stitched with lines all along the lizard outsole of the shoe, quite similar to the suns rays on the flag.

Buyers should be pleased with the purchase of this shoe, for once again Jordan Brand seems to be promising with quality and originality, making this a worth wild purchase for any Jordan heads out there!

Finally, we have a first hand look at one of the most anticipated shoes of the year. The Air Jordan XI Space Jam 2009. The perfect gift for any child, sibling or boyfriend with a passion for sneakers.

This Air Jordan is unique as always, with its slick patent leather and nylon mesh upper, white mid-soles and clear soles so icy you would've thought you were balling on ice.

The regular release of the shoe comes with the new sexy box and inserts. The newly designed box and shoe inserts were not limited to those who bought the early release of the shoe. In my opinion all it is missing is a retro card.

They resemble the AJ XI's released in 2000-2001 more than the ones released last year just based on weight. The XI's that came out in the pack seem slightly lighter, maybe it's me, but there have been complaints about recent quality with the Jordan brand franchise. Either way, these 2009 Space Jams are FIRE. Granted, everyone will have them, but 2-3 years from now when most people have beaten theirs up and the price has gone up, you are going to wish you copped a pair early....or 2,3,etc...

ICY SOLES!

The outer side of each shoe is topped off with a blue jumpman logo and a 23 stitched on the upper back of each foot. Also the overall quality seems quite promising in comparison to some of Jordan Brand's previous releases in the last year or two.

That same season he made a movie that this generation should be familiar with called Space Jam. In this movie he was wearing a new colour way of these dope sneakers. Now for the sneaker heads, those few sentences have been uttered on all sneaker sites continuously for the past year, so clearly, these shoes are anticipated.

Inglorious Hangover x Jimmy Woods

No! This isn't about waking up next to some random co-worker the morning after your annual staff christmas party. Ladies, I'm looking at you? December 15, 2009 will forever be known as the day when Todd Philip's "The Hangover" & Quentin Tarantino's "Inglorious Basterds" got together, drank too much "spiked" eggnog and hooked up to create the most unholy of unions known as the "Inglorious Hangover." A day when 2 of the most awesomest ( that's right, I just made up a new word, look it up, I dare you) movies of 2009, in this writer's opinion, come out on Blu-Ray & DVD. I, "For Sheezy", recommend that anyone and everyone get out there and either rent/buy these 2 movies right away!

For those of you that haven't even heard of these movies, I say one thing: "Who are you?" Here's a quick recap. The Hangover from director Todd Philips, who brought us classic comedies the likes of "Road Trip" and "Old School", is a comedy about a bunch of guys going to Las Vegas for a bachelor party. Sounds like a pretty basic premise for a comedy that's already been done many times before (Very Bad Things anyone?) So what makes this one an instant classic? It's a combination of a great cast: Ed Helms a.k.a. Andy Bernard from The Office (this guy needs his own show) , Zack Galifinakis is one of the funniest guys most people never knew existed but now that's all changed & Bradley Cooper is bar none a future leading man in Hollywood, a good script and a refreshing take on an old formula... oh and how can I forget: MIKE TYSON!!!!

Inglorious Basterds is Quentin "I dare you to say WHAT one more godamn time" Tarantino's masterpiece. A culmination that started with Reservoir Dogs 17 years ago. QT has one-upped himself with each new movie he puts out there. Basterds is a remake,in name only, about a bunch of Jewish-American Soldiers dropped behind enemy lines in Nazi-Occupied France to kill as many NAZIS as possible. What surprised this Basterd the most about this film is that when you think you have QT pegged on what type of director he is and what type movie he's making, he throws your sense into a pound of Bolivian blow and mindf**ks you like no ones business. Oh and did I forget to mention that Brad "Tyler Durden" Pitt stars in this film?

So to recap: we have Booze, Las Vegas, Ladies Nazis, France, Brad Pitt, Jews, Mike Tyson & Tigers OH MY! What more can you ask for during the holidays? Nothing, that's what.  Sound Good?  YES SIR!!!!!!

Raekwon's "Only Built for Cuban Linx 2" Album Review x Andrew Da Silva

When word got out that Raekwon was recording a follow up to his classic album Only Built for Cuban Linx, it threw the rap world into a frenzy! Fans waited with feverish anticipation upon its release, as speculation arose as to who would be featured as guests, who would handle production credits, and if the album could ever live up to the hype. Over the course of the summer Raekwon finally announced a due date for his new found masterpiece, and fans found the news hard to swallow; but soon gained hope as the eerie sounding head nodding single “New Wu” was released to appease the naysayers.

After all these years of waiting, the main question on everyone's mind is: "Does it live up to the hype? The answer is most definitely yes!!! Hip hop has had its share of ups and downs over the last few years in terms of quality music. This drop in quality mostly due in part to a lack of creativity from artists trying to reach a certain audience. Instead of trying to fit in with the youthful presence of today’s lyricists, Raekwon opts to deliver an album that is unabashedly street, raw, and cutting edge. Listeners will not find a song with a catchy hook to sing along to, nor will they be prompted to memorize the moves to some absurd dance routine; this is hip hop in its purest form; hard beats and hard rhymes.

The album plays like a true sequel to the original. Narratives on hustling, heists gone wrong, tributes to fallen allies(O.D.B) and even themes on celebration can be heard on Only Built for Cuban Linx 2. Most critics with a close minded view on hip hop would see these topics as old and cliched, but Rae’s mafioso inspired story telling is so vivid and detailed it would make Martin Scorsese blush. Rae’s story telling prowess can be seen on the Pete Rock produced “Sonny’s Missing”,

They found his head splashed, caught him by the side of the building/
He had a mask on, four-five why did you kill him?/
It was supposed to happen, clicked the shit back/
Yo, this is the deal, you get on the floor and lay in the grass/
Had me handcuffed, take two puffs of the kush/
I see you out here, your name’s real, can’t let you get touched/
He had a team, Japanese fiend, all of them greened down/
Chiba lit, blood on his Adidas was thick/

The cohesiveness of this album is one of the main reasons it is a cut above anything that has been released in a long time. Tracks blend seamlessly into each other with each track playing out a crucial scene to Raekwon and Ghostface’s cinematic raps. The production credits on this album are done by no less then hip hop royalty, as each Pete Rock, Rza, Erick Sermon, Marley Marl, Alchemist, J Dilla, Dr Dre, and Scram Jones, give Rae some of the best hip hop beats heard in quite some time. Another factor that makes this album so entertaining is Raekwon and Wu Tang’s usage of slang and descriptions. References to “bathing with white woman” dining with Wu Tang logo’s on the dishes” and “ buying fresh sneakers with guap!” will make any long time Wu fan’s head nod in approval, and smile in amusement. As with most albums today a key element in enjoyment relies on the guest MCs that the artist chooses to collaborate with. Cuban Linx 2 pairs some of the rawest MCs in the game to rap alongside Raekwon. Jadakiss, Beanie Sigel, Styles P, and Busta Rhymes, all make appearances as well as Rae’s Wu Tang brethren. Each MC delivers an outstanding performance which further enhances listening pleasure.

While in no means surpassing the original Only Built for Cuban Linx, which in this writer's opinion is the best hip hop album of all time, Only Built for Cuban Linx 2 is what long time fans of classic hip hop have been waiting for! A return to the raw rebellious street inspired hip hop, pioneered by the greats.

If you have listened to any of lupe's earlier mixtape work or even certain songs off of his latest mixtape then this should come as no surprise to you. Lupe has admitted before that he likes the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and that Anthony Kiedis (the lead vocalist) is one of his favourite "rappers." The video clip itself is nothing special, clearly an add for the movie. But the song is pretty good and I like how he cunningly calls the movie corny in the lyrics. Overall, a good listen and would probably be an amazing song to see performed live. If you have ever been to a Lupe concert, the man performs on stage, with the energy of a student high off maximum intake of Red Bulls energy drinks and a bag of Sour Patch Kids Candies. A good way to ease Lupe Fiasco fans into the Red Hot Chilli Peppers or vice verse. What do you think?

We’ve all seen music videos with girls half naked grinding all over the place. Now there’s nothing wrong with that at all, as a matter of fact here at BLUNTSANDKICKS.COM we encourage all art forms.

However, Miss Norah Jones is a breath of fresh air. She is a talented singer/songwriter who has won multiple Grammy’s in the past. Miss Jones doesn’t rely on gimmicks, she simply sings and she does it so well. Her voice is clear and leads the instrumental which shows off her skills vocally.

The main idea behind the song and the video is a daydreamer at home; it comes together very well.

NOT TO MENTION SHE IS SO SWEET. She also knows to play to her strengths as this video fits her girl next door image perfectly.

First off, I want to say I enjoy watching movies. I like to witness something that is thought provoking or depth beyond images on screen. I usually won't watch a movie because it looks formulaic or unoriginal.

Now, this movie that we have the trailer on display for is special. It is a remake of a British movie that came out in 2009. I have seen the original movie and judging by the trailer they did not change much. They literally took the characters from the British one and found a Black person as a replacement except for the midget; he is literally the same actor from the British version playing the exact same character. I am usually against remakes coming out so close to each other just because it feels like you are seeing recycled material, which clearly is the case here.

However, this movie gives me hope because when I watched the first one I was quite bored and found little amusement in it, while critics and many people loved it. My dislike of the British version had nothing to do with their style of comedy, I generally like British humor (see movie "Hot Fuzz"). I feel like I laughed more in this 2+ minute trailer than I did in watching the British version. Although that comes with a personal bias since Tracy Morgan kills me (watch 30 Rock).

All in all, I think this Black-American version (or Blackmericans for anyone who watches 30 Rock) is going to be very amusing and potentially a classic, seeing as the British one got such high reviews. What do you think? Funny? Interesting? Cool?

Toronto: There's definitely 30 mpg available in Toronto. With Jose Calderon and Hedo Turkoglu, Iverson would have little-to-zero facilitating responsibilities and could focus strictly on scoring. And, although a Calderon/Iverson backcourt is about as bad defensively as Nash/Iverson, what Iverson would bring with him is more important. The Raptors have been soft and essentially swag-less since Charles Oakley bounced and Vince Carter gave up. What you have now is fairly talented team with a lot of potential, but missing a strut in their steps. If nothing else, Iverson gives the Raptors some machismo. And the hoops-crazed fans in Ontario would love him. In terms of effort, he's the anti-VC.

New Jersey: The Knicks offered the allure of playing at the Garden for coach Mike D'Antoni. The Nets can't offer anything close to that. But why not go get a mercernary for the rest of the season? Iverson and Devin Harris could actually wreak some havoc. Don't try to run any "We're-trying-to-develop-our-young-guys" rhetoric, here. Chris Douglas-Roberts can develop coming off the bench.

Indiana: This isn't exactly the best place for him to land, but what's stopping the Pacers from exploring this idea? T.J. Ford? Dahntay Jones? Brandon Rush? Much like Toronto, this squad is just floating around in the ether, pedestrian and middling. The Pacers could use a shot in the arm. Call A.I.

Houston: Tracy McGrady is still injured and, supposedly, his Houston days are numbered anyway. Yao Ming is most likely out for the season. Why not bring in A.I.? Aaron Brooks isn't a Brandon Jennings or Rajon Rondo. If his minutes drop to, say, 20 per game, is it going to upset the organization's 10-year plan? Rick Adelman is a veteran coach that could help integrate Iverson. I mean seriously, we're talking a commitment of less than one season for about the same money that Kyle Lowry clocks. Take a chance.

Chicago: Chicago averages 91 ppg. That's deplorable. They miss Ben Gordon. Well, there's a possible remedy for that. Chicago can bring in Iverson for pennies and he'll play the combo-guard, elite scorer, "Ben Gordon position." The minutes are there. This seems like a better fit than Philly. Chicago is a playoff team that is missing exactly what A.I. offers. John Salmons and Kirk Hinrich are very solid players, but they can have a seat and make room for a legend.

Miami: Mario Chalmers could use a little more time to study. So Iverson's bench hang-up shouldn't be a problem. In the meantime, you have A.I. in the same backcourt as Wade. Iverson co-existed with Carmelo Anthony, I'm assuming he could play off D-Wade just fine, especially when considering that Wade is as good of a playmaker as 90 percent of the point guards in the league. Pat Riley decided against adding Iverson this summer, but that was for luxury tax reasons. Iverson doesn't carry a $5 million price-tag, anymore. So come on, Riles. Pursue this. Maybe it might coax more than 10,000 fans to show up to the arena.

There's no such thing as dressing "black", "gino" or such and such nationality. How do you define how a certain ethnic group dresses?

Who are you to say I dress like another race I clearly don't belong to? There is ignorance instilled in discriminatory ideologies, so in abundance, it's saddening.

We should be glad that an individual from culture X is dressing like Y's culture. Do we not live in a multiethnic society? In a country that prides themselves on multiculturalism? Therefore the aftermath is the collision of cultures, in a positive manner.

You will see Asians and Blacks, Hispanics and Whites, along with the other colors of the rainbow communicate, intermingle and congregate.

Sticking to ones culture is a double edged razor.

For one, you build unity within your culture and people of your community. You speak in mother tongues (addressed in later posts), share morals, traditions, values and common ground.

However, the downside to sticking to ones' culture is the lack of contact with other cultures. The less one knows about the other, this will often result in the uses of stereotypes when perceiving the other. Stereotypes contain exponential power that escalate to racial slurs. Further escalation results in wars and mass genocides.

The unity of different cultures should be noted as a positive movement. This movement, when built in numbers, creates a strength so powerful not even the strongest earthquake could measure up to its intensity.

Breaking racism and discrimination barriers is a cause that should be addressed.

Despite a movement's low momentum, it'll be a force to be reckoned with once it gains proper attention and builds in motion. You can learn a language, but you can't unlearn racism.

FYI: The relevance and message in the post's title. A touching film of a mother who is reunited with her long lost son and the emotional struggles of adapting to change. If you ever watched "the Pretender", then you'll recognize Michelle's long lost son in the movie.

Get your coffee pots out; the Virginia-based epitomizers of the coke-rap subgenre are back. The Clipse, formed by brothers Pusha-T and Malice has returned, bringing fish scales and Pyrex pots along with them in an anticipated fashion. Til The Casket Drops, the duo’s third studio album is right around the corner, set to drop two weeks from today.

Once again, fellow Virginia Beach natives Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo were back in the booth with the Clipse, producing 9 of the 14 tracks to be released.

The duo, widely-known as the Neptunes, have been affiliated with the Clipse since their crack-slinging hip-hop debut back in the early nineties.

Their funky, electro-pop/sci-fi-inspired beats have covered the Clipse’s track lists ever since. The Neptunes can definitely be held accountable for establishing the coke-trade philosophers’ distinctly-unique sound.

DJ Khalil and Diddy will be producing the remaining five tracks on the new album. In other collabo news, look out for some big-ticket names to the likes of Keri Hilson, Yo Gotti and Kanye West and of course, Pharrell Williams, to make appearances on the album, as well.

The critically- acclaimed Hell Hath No Fury, the Clipse’s sophomore studio release of ‘06 struggled in terms of sales. Its XXL Magazine rating of, well, XXL (5 out of 5) marked the sixth album in the magazine’s history to have reached that level of critical notoriety. This, among endless other raving positive reviews didn’t save the Clipse from the SoundScan trouble, suggesting insufficient marketing strategies on behalf of the group’s former distributing label, Jive Records.

They’ve since signed with Columbia Records, who will hopefully improve on Jive’s failure to properly expose the coke-rap phenoms. Their distributors might not be the only ones responsible for weak sales; one might also blame the Clipse’s relatively-poor work ethic when it comes to mixtapes.

The boys who brought us classics like ‘Grindin’ and ‘Mr. Me Too’ have never put much emphasis at all on their mixtape game, and since Sandman’s departure from the Re-Up Gang, this fact has been more real than ever. Their most recent mixtape, Road to Til the Casket Drops, dropped back in ’08, and will hopefully change their revenue luck for this upcoming album’s release.

Four tracks from Til the Casket Drops have already been released, all of which already have full music videos. Here’s a look at the collabo with the Diplomat chieftain Cam’Ron as well as the most recent video release, ‘Door Man’.

The Clipse's third studio album is set to hit the shelves December 8th, along with new releases from Snoop Dogg, Gucci Mane and Timbaland.

mind you, this performance was back in '98. way before all the pro-female anthems, even Independent Women by DC in 2001. Celine was making a statement with this song, especially with her non-Quebecoise sounding voice.
